Body
Mass Index Chart
Some 60 percent of Americans are overweight; one
fourth are obese. Divided up among us, that’s at least one member
in every family. Obesity causes approximately a thousand deaths
each day. Some of obesity’s complications place in the top three
for disease-related premature death. One-half of cardiovascular
deaths and one-third of cancer deaths are due to being overweight.
Only cigarette smoking outranks obesity as the largest cause of
preventable death. And besides inducing heart disease, high blood
pressure, and diabetes, obesity is responsible for high cholesterol,
stroke, pulmonary emboli, gout, gallstones, arthritis, certain kinds
of cancer, and sleep apnea. Recently researchers have also linked
obesity to cellular oxidation, which is the process that kills cells,
speeding aging and death.
In the past, physicians, dieticians, and personal
trainers have tried to manage the body alone without results. Then
psychologists did the same with the mind only. But rather than focusing
on limited areas of expertise, success is only possible by treating
the mind, body, and soul simultaneously, thereby addressing the
destructive components of the disease in its various forms.
From the beginning, then, my goal has been to
seek out the very best treatments in each of these three fields
of science and – for the first time – unite them, to use them together.
My criteria for choosing the best treatments are simple. It must
give consistent results. Through experience and modification, these
treatments have been streamlined so that they can be applied to
the majority and with a success rate that will halt the obesity
epidemic. Their presentation is with no frills and no gimmicks –
the simple truth on how to lose weight, feel great, and never regain
if for the rest of your life. And for me, that’s the only definition
of success.
